Illustrated by John Hookham, large octavo, pp x, 91, endpapers slightly marked, otherwise clean internally, brown cloth dull and marked, the dustwrapper is price-clipped and rather worn chipped and frayed. [George Gamow, [1904 - 1968], was a Soviet & American polymath, theoretical physicist and cosmologist. He was an early advocate and developer of Lemaître's Big Bang theory. In his middle and late career, Gamow directed much of his attention to teaching and wrote popular books on science, including the Mr Tompkins series of books, 1939-1967. Throughout these books, Mr Tompkins is introduced as "C. G. H. Tompkins" to emphasize the notion of cGh physics. The book is dedicated to Lewis Carroll and Niels Bohr.]. First Edition. Cloth.
