The first work by Bemelmans to appear in a reprint edition, this insightful, charming, and honest account provides an entertaining story of America during World War One. Written from the point of view of a non-native living in America during those trying times, it reveals that life in the American Army can be anything from a consecration to a lark. The first Modern Library edition in its unclipped dust wrapper, illustrated throughout by the author. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely with only minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The dust wrapper is unclipped and sound, with some shelf wear and a minor closed tear to the front wrap. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean.
