Reader reviews for Liquids 2e V2

From the publisher

This revision of an introductory text examines Newtonian liquids and polymer fluid mechanics. It begins with a review of the main ideas of fluid dynamics as well as key points of Newtonian fluids. The major revisions include extensive updating of all material and a greater emphasis on fluid dynamics problem solving. Summaries are presented of experiments describing the difference between polymeric and simple fluids. In addition the book traces, roughly in historical order, various methods for solving polymer fluid dynamics problems. Included are problems at the end of each chapter and appendixes to assist the reader in arriving at correct solutions.

First line

Even in the kinetic theory of gases it is necessary to use simplified models to represent molecules in order to minimize the mathematical complications.

About the author

Robert Byron Bird is a chemical engineer and professor emeritus in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is known for his research in transport phenomena of non-Newtonian fluids, including fluid dynamics of polymers, polymer kinetic theory, and rheology. Charles F. Curtiss is the author of Dynamics of Polymeric Liquids, Volume 2: Kinetic Theory, 2nd Edition, published by Wiley.
