London; Henry Colburn and Richard Bentley, 1831., 1831. Hard Cover. FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp., xvi, 463, [1]; xi, [1], 465, [1]. Aquatint frontispiece to Vol I, fold-out Map of the Turkish Provinces of Roumelia and Bulgaria and plan of Shumla and environs; large folding map frontispiece of the Northwestern part of Asia Minor, and 8 engravings within text to Vol II. Tan half levant morocco with 5 raised bands; gilt titles, ruling and crest to spine; marbled paper-covered boards with matching marbled endpapers and edges. Spines lightly scuffed with minor surface loss to Vol I top edge. A little scattered foxing, mainly to prelims & endpapers, and offsetting from endpapers to edge of 2 leaves Vol II, otherwise contents clean and bright. Map to Vol II misfolded with associated creasing. No annotation or inscriptions. An attractive, solid set. George Keppel, 6th Earl of Albemarle (1799 - 1891) had a long military career which included the Battle of Waterloo and service as aide to the Governor General of India, and eventually leading to his rise to the rank of General. This work includes insights into the Russo-Turkish wars and is his second account of his travels. Heavyweight so a contribution towards increased postage costs will be requested for overseas delivery.
