History of football at the University of Nebraska. The Nebraska Cornhuskers began their football legacy in 1890; their Memorial Stadium was completed in 1923. They won nine Big Six titles over the next 80 years and reached the Rose Bowl in 1941. Following a 21-year drought, coach Bob Devaney took over in 1962 and over the next 11 seasons they recorded a 101-20-2 run, won 8 Big Eight titles and two National Championships.
