About This Item

Moody, 1975. Leather. FINE. FINE in FINE original box. One trivial scuff to rear cover, exceedingly clean and fresh otherwise. 1334, 396, 115 pp. + maps. 8vo, Burgundy Cowhide Leather with pronounced grain. half-circuit binding, all edges gilt, single column format with marginal references. Presentation plate inlaid to FFEP from the Lockman Foundation. This copy was presented to Leonard Woodcock as a supporter of the Lockman Foundation. An unexpected association; Woodcock was a major figure in American Labor, longtime president of the United Auto Workers, listed #9 on Nixon's enemies list with 'no comment necessary.' He was later named Ambassador to China by fellow progressive evangelical Jimmy Carter who called him, 'the senior statesman of the American labor movement-respected by, I guess, every working man and woman who was a member of a union or not in this country, and he was also respected by all those who had dealt with him from the management side.' The NASB, published by one of the most prominent Evangelical publishing houses, Moody Press, is a mainstay of modern conservative Evangelicals, championed by John MacArthur and others for its literal fidelity to the original manuscripts. A presentation copy given to the UAW President and financial backer of the Lockman Foundation strains the post-1980 imagination. Provenance: a fellow dealer purchased this directly from Leonard Woodcock's widow.
