About This Item
New York: Quigley Publishing Company. Very Good+ in Very Good dj. 1953. First Edition. Hardcover. [moderate wear to extremities (mostly the lower), small brown stain line on fore-edge, one-time owner's signature on front endpaper (see notes); the jacket is moderately worn, with some minor paper loss to the upper extremities, a bit of darkening along the spine]. (B&W photos, drawings) 26 illustrated articles by various film technicians, craftsmen, executives, etc., dealing "primarily with three powerful new methods under commercial development in 1953 my the motion picture industry -- three- dimensional or stereoscopic pictures; wide screen pictures; and stereophonic sound." Contributors include directors Henry Koster and Jean Negulesco, cinematographer Leon Shamroy, producer Pete Smith, and executives Jack Warner and Darryl F. Zanuck. An uncommon work, issued at a critical time for the motion picture industry as they attempted (with some measure of desperation) to maintain the appeal of movies for an audience that was increasingly being lost to TV. The previous owner's signature at the top of the front endpaper is that of the noted film critic and historian Arthur Knight. .
