New York: Viking Press, 1937. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 4th Printing Stated: Fourth Printing April 1937. Hard cover in very good condition with tan linen-like boards, moss green spine lettering, and title & suthor blind stamped on front board. Interior text block clean & tight; no writing, no markings noted. Age toning to the papers. Contains sections of black & white photographs & illustrations. A hefty 619 numbered pages. After the last page is bound in a map, which when unfolded, measures approximately 10 7/8"" x 19 1/4""; white background, black printing, blue, yellow & green colors. Dust jacket very good with shelf & edge wear; age toning to the white of back jacket & flaps; smudges, rubbing at corners and head & hell of spine, creases at bottom front corner. There is also what appears to be part of an old postage stamp (?) on front bottom corner - see photo. Not price clipped; original price $5.00. * From the forward, ""...the greatest single stream on earth ...a fact which determines its whole life and that of its basin....Though it flows along almost one-tenth of the earth's circumference, it maintains the simplest form of all rivers; save for a single loop, its course is from south to north ... this is its history from its source to the fertile delta in Egypt and the life surrounding it....4,000 miles ~ 6,000 years.
