About This Item

xxxviii+331 pages with maps, tables, photographs and indexes. Royal octavo (9 1/2" x 6 1/2") bound in original pictorial cloth. Prologue by Robert V Kemper First Spanish edition.

Perhaps no region of North America is as little known to anthropologists as northern Mexico, between the border with the United States and a line that runs from the mouth of the Pánuco River to the southern limit of the state of Jalisco. This section has generally been considered a place of transition, an area in which the cultures of southern Mexico have blended with the culture of the Pueblo Indians. The work of discovering the relationships between the cultures of North America and Mexico cannot be completed without many years of study, and it may be well to make it clear from the very beginning that this work is not intended to be definitive. It limits itself to systematically gathering a part of the information available on northern Mexico and suggesting certain tentative conclusions.
