Contemporary full polished calf. Gilt crest to front board:"The Society Of Writers To The Signet." Spine with 5 raised bands and original red leather title label. Clean English text. Very good for its age. This was Gurney's first book, and one of the best early descriptions of the Quaker creed. Gurney was prominent in philanthropy and social reform; he was much involved in the anti-slavery movement, along with Wilberforce, Clarkson, and Buxton.
