Containing the works of Francois Rabelais in the original French, with a life of the author and explanations of difficult words. A new edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece and final tail pieces. Francois Rabelais was a French Renaissance writer and physician, Renaissance humanist, monk, and Greek scholar. He is known for his satires and grotesque jokes and songs, and particularly for his work concerned with the childhoods of the giants Gargantua and Pantagruel in the style of bildungsroman. He is considered to be a Christian humanist. Pocket sized. Tables of content to rear. Rebound in full straight up grain morocco binding, marbled endpapers. Externally smart with light shelf wear, rubbed along joints. Previous ownership inscription to recto front blank leaf, undated. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally very clean throughout. Very Good
