About This Item

New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1946. A square, tight copy. Light cover soil. Inner hinges are perfectly sound. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. Text pages are unmarked. First Putnam printing after the 1937 Derrydale Press limited edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece painting (Mississippi Mallards) by Richard E. Bishop and 10 photographic plates. Bound in the original brown cloth, stamped in gold on the spine and with an image of ducks in flight on the front cover. From the foreword by Paul A. Curtis: "Some years ago, I shot with Nash Buckingham in the cypress swamps along the Mississippi. I watched him rake mallards out of the air high above the tallest timber, with a skill no other man has shown me in a lifetime of wandering for sport. And, as we lay in camp at night, listening to the river's roar, I learned to know the man; his quaint whimsies, his sensitiveness to the beauty of his surroundings and the characters and moods of his companions. I realized then his rare gift for portraiture... the urge to express himself for others, so that they may fully realize... the real charm and wealth and beauty of those old American shooting days passing so rapidly beyond recall.". First Trade Edition. Hardcover. Very Good condition/No dust jacket. Illus. by Bishop, Richard E. 8vo. xii, 178pp.. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
