About This Item
London: Grant Richards, 1908. First edition. Vellum. Good. 5" by 7". None. An uncommon first edition of this poetic satire by Robert Le Gallienne. A small paper vellum first edition by Liverpudlian poet Richard Le Gallienne. In 1897, Le Gallienne, published a verse translation of some works attributed to eleventh century Persian poet Omar Khayyam. There was some debate over the philosophical outlook of Khayyam's work, which served as an inspiration for this scarce poetic satire by Le Gallienne. In it, drinking is used as a comedic solution to all philosophical dilemmas. In a paper vellum binding. Front in a worn condition with noticeable discolouration all over. The front board displays a partial ring mark remnant. Internally firmly bound, with bright and clean pages. Some markings on the front and back pastedowns and free endpapers, concentrated towards the hinges. Good
