For this early-'60s crime novel, MacDonald reached into his inexhaustible well of very good titles and retrieved a particularly good one, even by his own high standards. ONE MONDAY WE KILLED THEM ALL is told in the first person by a hard-headed, close-mouthed, tender-hearted cop with a violent criminal for a brother-in-law and a woman he loves for a wife; in the end, enough brutal violence ensues to make even this most stoic of lone heroes willing to talk about his feelings.
