The extant works of the 3rd century "wonder worker" saint (some of whose miracles strain credulity, such as Gregory’s resolution of a conflict over a lake by two brothers – Gregory miraculously divided the lake into two). Gregory studied under the great Christian scholar Origen in Palestine and believed that Christian theology was the truest philosophy. Gregory's works illuminate theology but also illuminate the teachings of the church organization and the individuals involved in Christian work at the time. He is important, via the Canonical Epistle, for “valuable data on church discipline in the 3rd-century East, resolving moral questions incident to the Gothic invasion of Pontus (modern northwest Turkey) , with the rape, pillage, and apostasy that attended it. With his brother, a fellow bishop, Gregory assisted at the first Synod of Antioch (c. 264) , which rejected the heresy of Paul of Samosata. The Exposition of Faith, Gregory’s principal work, was a theological apology for Trinitarian belief. ”; Folio 13" - 23" tall .
