Franklin Center, PA: The Franklin Library, 1978. Hardcover. Illustrations by Mitchell Hooks. Small 4to. Full brown calf with raised bands and elaborate gilt lettering and decorative rules and devices. 190pp. All edges gilt. Illustrations, green moire silk endpapers, sewn-in green satin page marker. Fine. Pristine, perfect first of this edition, being a reprint of Welty's 1972 short novel, winner of the 1938 Pulitzer Prize. This unusual copy bears tipped to the front flyleaf a fine heavy stock 4" X 3" card signed boldly by Welty in black ballpoint. Book is housed in the Franklin Library's thin card stock slipcase.
