New York: Cus D'Amato, 1957. Vintage photograph of boxer Joe Shaw, circa 1957, with his name and contact information for Shaw's manager, Cus D'Amato, in the bottom margin.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Joe Shaw competed as part of the US boxing team in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, winning one bout as a light-welter before losing in the quarter finals. Shaw won the 135lb Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament and the Intercity Golden Gloves championship in 1956 and the 147lb Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament and the Intercity Golden Gloves championship in 1957. Turned professional boxer in December 1957, Shaw won his first bout against Alfonso Estrado and had a respectable journeyman career until he lost by TKO to Bennie Briscoe in March, 1970.
