About This Item

Wiseman, 2012. INSCRIBED "to Christine" and SIGNED "with love" by the AUTHOR on the front free endpaper. Appears unread. Very Fine condition in a bright and shiny Very Fine dust jacket. The jacket is protected by a removable Brodart clear-plastic sleeve. No chips, tears or creases. Sharp corners. NO owner's name or bookplate. Pages are fresh, crisp, clean and unmarked -- apparently never read.. Laid in is a "Andreea Raducan bookmark" with a color photo of her gymnastics gold medal from the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Illustrated with 32 pages of photographs, most in full color. Translated into English by Magda Petrescu. This book chronicles Raducan's career and the controversial decision to strip her of the all around gymnastics gold medal she won at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. From the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame website: "Raducan had trusted the Romanian team doctor, who gave her cold medication. A drug test revealed that the pills tested positive for ephedrine, a banned stimulant at the time. Raducan was able to keep the gold medal that she and her Romanian teammates had won earlier, and a few days later, she earned the silver medal on vault. Raducan went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland to get her all-around gold medal back. She was denied the request but was exonerated for anything wrong-doing by the CAS, the Romanian Olympic Committee and the International Gymnastics Federation. Raducan did not turn her back to the sport. She competed in the 2001 Ghent World Championships, where her team won the gold again. She placed third all-around and on vault, and won gold medals on balance beam and floor exercise." Raducan was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame’s Class of 2018. From the dust jacket: "'I admit that it isn't very easy to go back in time . Many years have passed since I first stepped in a gymnasium! Back then I never thought about what I would go through - a long beautiful road filled with sacrifices, hard work, unforgettable moments, tears of joy and many, many medals.' -- Andreea Raducan.". First Edition in English. Hardcover. Very Fine condition/Very Fine dust jacket. 192pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.
