Paris: Laplace, Sanchez et Cie, 1881. Leather. Very Good. 7" by 4.5". Not Stated . A new edition of the selected dramatic works of Pierre Corneille adorned with four full page coloured plates. Pierre Corneille was one of the most influential French dramatists in the seventeenth century along with Moliere and Racine. He was a French tragedian, known for his play Le Cid, a tragicomedy first performed in 1636 at the Théâtre du Marais in Paris. Other works include 'La Mort de Pompee', 'Andromede', 'Cinna' and 'Clitandre'. When young he earned the patrionate of Cardinal Richelieu. A new edition of his selected works, including 'Le Cid,' 'Cinna,' and 'Rodogune' among others. Collated, complete with four full page coloured plates. In quarter morocco binding over cloth covered boards, five raised bands, gilt tooling to spine. Externally very smart with light bumping to extremities of boards. Previous ownership neat ink inscription to front free endpaper, undated. Pp. 262-266 and one leaf of plate loose but present. Binding otherwise firm. Light spotting scattered to leaves. Very Good
