Full period polished calf, 5 gilt lined spine bands with red leather spine title label, 8vo, 8.5 inches tall; 2 volume set. 11th Edition. Double column, woodcut headpiece, tail-piece, and initials; Index in volume 2 and publisher's advert. 11th Edition. First published in 1703 with the text in the Authorized version.
The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Modest shelf handling wear. Volumes lack free endpages and preliminaries. Period ownership in quill on the title pages. Volume has a long contemporary inscription or list signed A. Hamilation. A few margin notes to correct words with a letter dropped by printer or changed in writer's opinion. Note on the o top of the recto of the end free endpage.. Samuel Clarke was an English philosopher and Anglican clergyman. He is considered the major British figure in philosophy between John Locke and George Berkeley.
Clarke's altered, Nontrinitarian revision of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer continues to influence worship among modern Unitarians.
