Spine title: "Cooper's Novels. The Pathfinder". "Entered according to the Act of Congress, in the year 1860, by W.A. Townsend and Company" - title page verso. Reprint of the seventh volume of the first "de luxe" edition, in 32 volumes, of "Cooper's Novels," illustrated by F.O.C. Darley, New York: W.A. Townsend and Company, 1859-1861. "The volumes were evidently issued for sale separately as well as in sets, for there are no half-titles or other indications of the proper shelf order. The set title occurs on the spine only...D. Appleton and Company issued a cheap reprint of the same edition in 1872-1873 and continued to reprint it in various forms...until 1901," Spiller & Blackburn, p. 170-171.
