The March, 2016 issue of the Patriot, a small, apparently upstate-New York based monthly newspaper, a right wing- extreme evangelical, religious-ideological platform. Headline bears an editor's error, "One in the Same" instead of "One and the Same". Newsprint, 18.5 " x 11.25", 16 pp. As New, with the standard mailing central fold, and a very light touch of the inevitable newsprint toning to the paper. Otherwise, flawless. Extreme, but essentially non-violent in tone.While the paper's commandeering of the name "Patriot" sounds awkward to many of us, it does remind us that anyone, anywhere, can find reason to see and define himself as a patriot, if sufficiently so motivated. Sobering thought. Unpretentious in production values, and topically often very regional, but likely eventually a collector's item nonetheless - as a scarce example of one of many similar small ideological organs around the country which have existed since somewhere mid-twentieth century and will last until, likely, at least a couple decades from now; they've represent a dying breed of one particular uniquely American point of view. Titles like 'The Patriot" and the like will continue in various groups, but the ideologies are inevitably fading, changing, restarting, fading and changing again as time goes on. It was ever thus. Everything changes, as it should. And that's what makes - along with much more important things - collectibles. Will ship folded at its production fold, but in a bubble-wrap-lined envelope. Ideological/religious ephemera - just out, and scarce already. LPR30
