Albany: J. Munsell, 1867. First edition. Hardcover. Poor. First ediitopn. Hardcover in brown cloth covered boards. 272 pp. Albumen photographic frontispiece portrait of the author. Very scarce history of the town of Pawlet, located in Rutland County in far western Vermont near the border of New York State. The area was first settled in the 1760s, the land having been granted by the Governor of colonial New Hampshire to Jonathan Willard and others; it has some small involvement in the French and Indian War and more in the Revolutionary War. Hollister's work highlights such subjects as local literature, agricultire, manufactures, mgeology, churrches, cemeteries, Civil War involvement and an extensive section on familiy histories. A WORKING COPY ONLY, lacking the spine strip although the text block is fully intact. Contemporary ownership pencil signature front free endpaper: "A.S. Hooughton/ Pawlet/ Vermont"
