A very scarce linen-backed folding road map of New South Wales, Australia, by Pearson's, compiled and published by H. E. C. Robinson. Joseph Pearson was a draper, cyclist and map publisher who compiled and published a series of road maps and guides that became the swiftly became the standard works on Australia, and catered increasingly for the motorist. This work was published and compiled by Herbert Edward Cooper Robinson, one of the oldest and best-renowned map publishers in Australia. Robinson worked with many eminent scientists and authors of geographical works in Australia, and his maps have been sought after all over the world. They have long since been accepted as standard works in schools in Australia, and more recently they have become popular in New Zealand schools. This copy has been dated circa 1906. The map is dated '1.12.05' by the publisher to the lower extremity of the map, however, the publisher's address listed on the map ('Phillip Street') was only used by the publisher from 1906 till 1913. A very scarce copy, with only a third edition copy dated circa 1910 held at Cambridge University. Featuring an additional pocket to the front pastedown, in which is held a very scarce copy of the New South Wales Government Tourist Bureau's booklet for 'Daily Excursion for Visitors of Sidney'. This charming leaflet contains suggested excursions around Sydney arranged by the day of the week, with facts about the city and a small folding map. In a full crushed morocco binding with gilt title to front board, containing a linen backed folding map with publisher's advertisements to the verso. Additional pocket to front pastedown containing small booklet. Externally rubbed to extremities and boards. Rubbing to spines resulting in loss to leather. Joints detached to rear but reasonably firm. Pocket to pastedown, imitation leather. Evidence of removal to front pastedown. Folding map slightly age toned but very clean throughout. The occasional closed tear to the fold lines of the map. Very slight bumping and creasing to the extremities of the map. Prior owner's inscription to verso of folding map. Booklet age toned, sunned and spotted to wrap with slight worming to front wrap. Booklet internally firmly bound with very bright and clean pages. Very Good
