About This Item
Armand Colin, 1973. Soft cover. Good. THIS BOOK IS IN FRENCH. 302 pages, with index, bibliography, 24 art reproductions on b&w plates. The author, a scholar from the University of Lyons, seeks to show that ". . . la peinture et la sculpture américaines ont su conserver une certaine spécificité marquée notamment par le puritanisme, l'attachement aux objets, la tradition idéographique, le sens de l'espace et l'attrait du rêve." The chapters span from the colonial-period Boston and Philadelphia artists to the New York School in the 1960s. Small paperback (~11.5 x 16.5 cm), glossy wraps with shelf wear, top edge dust-soiled, faint foxing to edges and end papers, extending to the margins of some pages. Underscoring and/or marginalia in pencil by former owner Prof. Warner Berthoff on approximately 40 pages.
