London, printed for John Martyn, printer to the Royal Society, 1676.. FIRST EDITION 1676. The Evelyn family copy with the bookplate of William John Evelyn on the front pastedown and Christie's JE bookplate on first free endpaper. Small 8vo, approximately 155 x 90 mm, 6 x 3¾ inches, pages: [6], 7-182, initial imprimatur leaf and final blank M4 present, bound in full speckled calf rebacked at sometime in lighter speckled calf, no title to spine. Corners of binding slightly worn with board just visible, slight shelf wear to edges, pale age-browning to endpapers front and rear and imprimatur leaf, small chip to 1 margin, tiny repair to top edge of first free endpaper, small rust spot to margins of pages 142-150, pages 171-172 with 2 small rust spots to text, pages 155-156 with a single small brown spot to text, a tiny dark spot to lower margin of pages 155-160, otherwise text clean. A very good copy. See: Geoffrey Keynes, John Evelyn, A Study in Bibliophily with a Bibliography of his Writings, page 211, No.93, page 108 is numbered 118 in our copy the same as in Keynes; Christie, Manson & Wood Ltd, Catalogue of the The Evelyn Library, Part iv, page 96, No.1702, probably our copy which hasbeen rebacked again; Rachel Hunt, Catalogue of Botanical Books, Volume 1, page 369, No. 346.
