This book introduces the reader to the most advanced topics of physical-layer security (PLS), cryptography, covert/stealth communications, and quantum key distribution (QKD), also known as the quantum cryptography, and post-quantum cryptography (PQC). So far, these topics have been considered as separate disciplines, even though they are targeting the same security problems we are facing today. The book integrates modern cryptography, physical-layer security, QKD, covert communication, PQC, and cyber security technologies.

The book is intended for a very diverse group of readers in communications engineering, optical engineering, wireless communications, free-space optical communications, optical wireless communications, mathematics, physics, communication theory, information theory, photonics, as well as computer science.

About the author

Dr. Ivan Djordjevic is a professor of electrical and computer engineering and optical sciences at the University of Arizona; director of the Optical Communications Systems Laboratory (OCSL) and Quantum Communications (QuCom) Lab; and co-director of the Signal Processing and Coding Lab. He is both an IEEE Fellow and the OSA (Optica) Fellow. He received his PhD degree from the University of Nis, Yugoslavia in 1999. Professor Djordjevic has authored or co-authored 11 books (with additional two in preparation), 14 book chapters, more than 600 journal and conference publications, and he holds 58 US patents. His research interests include optical communications and networks, quantum communications, quantum sensing, quantum networks, and channel coding. Dr. Djordjevic serves as a Member of Editorial Board for Frequenz. He was serving as Editor IEEE Transactions on Communications from 2021 to Feb. 2025. He was serving as the member of editorial board for Optical and Quantum Electronics from 2019 to 2024. He was serving as an associate editor for OSA (Optica)/IEEE Journal of Optical Communications and Networking from 2019 to 2023. He was also serving as editor/senior editor/area editor of IEEE Communications Letters from 2012 to 2021.Finally, he was serving as editorial board member/associate editor for IOP Journal of Optics and Elsevier Physical Communication Journal both from to 2016 to 2021. Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Dr. Djordjevic held appointments at University of Bristol and University of the West of England in UK, Tyco Telecommunications in USA, National Technical University of Athens in Greece, and State Telecommunication Company in Yugoslavia.
