About This Item
London: The Cassanova Society, 1925. Limited Edition: #352 of 1,000 copies. Cloth and boards. Very Good/None. 4to (10 1/2" x 7 7/8"), brown backstrip with gray label over blue-gray boards, Preface by the Translator Francis Macnamara, handsomely printed by the Moorland Press, Ltd., xlv, [xlvi-xlviii] + 310, [311] deckle-edged and highly cloth-infused pages. 2 lbs. 5 oz. Honoré Balzac [1799 - 1850) was a brilliant French novelist and playwright. He is best known for his huge novel sequence La Comédie humaine, which presents a panorama of post-Napoleonic French life. That Balzac composed both of his discourses on marriage: Physiologie du Mariage (The Physiology of Marriage) and Scenes de la vie Conjugale (Scenes of Conjugal life) prior to his own marriage ought to raise questions of irony and amusement, but--given the major importance of Balzac--his views merit consideration. Very Good condition: tight, clean copies of this well produced book. It has excellent typography, binding, and paper. Minor shelfwear. Traces of offsetting to the free endpapers, and very light uniform age-toning throughout. A couple of tiny bumps to the cloth top cover's fore-edge.
