About This Item

Dennis Edwards & Co., Cape Town, 1899. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 228 pages (complete). A comfortably aged copy. A collection of the most fascinating photographs that sweep from an Indaba in Bulaway, the wide serene streets of Grahamstown, a flag festooned Alfred Dock in Cape Town, to the bustle of central Johannesburg, to the austere life of a Trappist monk at Marianhill. A very confident and proud picture of pre-bellum Colonial South Africa. The green boards are sturdy. Stamped gilt titling. The boards have wear, scuffing, marks about all edges, corners, seams. They are steady and sure. The contents have ample evidence of avid use throughout. There is some wear about the edges, some handling marks, a very, very occasional pencil mark, handling creasing. Nonetheless, the pages are bold, grand, clean, clear, assured, companionable. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
