Three short stories in Jeff Nuttall's 'cut up' style, written as if he had three piles of jagged, unrelated sentences that were put together with a sense of order. Reading like free verse compressed into prose, sometimes described as 'prose music,' assembling these piles resulted in the stories The Rain, The Train, and The Coast. Example: "George Gland, ritually, in deference to his being in the light, his weight against the water, his mounting inner density of indigestion and bladderpressure, soaped the minnow and smiled thin silibant against the doorstep -- water afternoon and tidal wattage." Copy 52 of a limited edition of 75. Numbered "52/75" and signed by the author, both on the limitation page. Preface by William S. Burroughs who appreciated Nuttall's avant-garde approach to poetry. An artistic polymath, Jeffrey Addison Nuttall was an English poet, novelist, performance artist, jazz musician until the last moment of his life waiting to go onstage, anarchist, and both commentator of and agitator for socio-political issues. Pagination is [1],[2],9-25,[3],29-60,[2],63-96, accommodating the three stories, each preceded by an illustrated subtitle page. Printed by Villiers Publications, Ltd., London, on pumpkin-colored "amber" Glastonbury Antique laid paper and bound in fine buckram cloth over boards. Title, author, and publisher in gilt to the spine. Fulcrum Press was active 1965-1974 as a small press focused on modernist and avant-garde poetry of British and American authors. Not to be confused with the trade hardback and paperback editions of Pig. These were printed from the plates of the limited edition, thus have a limitation page in the front. Typically, the line "Limited edition number" has a strikethrough cancel, as these editions are not signed or numbered and have no limitation. This is a book of three jagged, yet flowing, profane, challenging stories in Nuttall's unique style.
