Present are the hand colored chart, 6 hand colored plates and 8 sepia washed plates. This set is quite worn with the following problems: the covers of Vol.1 are detached and crudely taped at the top and bottom of the spine (as is vol.2), there is some minor spotting on some of the pages, two of the plates have been reattached opposite the wrong pages, three of the pages are torn with no loss of text. First Edition. 8vo. 286pp. Publisher's original tan cloth titled in gilt to the spine, in a very good, clean, and sharp example of the dustjacket, some minor edgewear, and a little spotting to the top edge and the inside flap, but essentially a near fine copy of an outstanding book. Inscribed by the author to the title page:"To Lisa - Best Wishes, Angela"The recipient is Lisa Tuttle, award winning science fiction author who very much shared Carter's desire for feminist interrogation of existing tropes, or the practice of asking "New questions of old texts", a direct quote from Tuttle, in the service of a kind of feminist revisionist mythology, the practice of which Angela Carter all but perfected in works like The Bloody Chamber, and The Magic Toyshop. A nice association in lovely condition.

Inscribed by Steadman on the dedication page in the year of publication, with characteristic flourishes; "Eleanor. Its only paper. Ralph (Steadman that is). 10. 12. 75". Mono illustrations throughout by Steadman. Original black stiff card binding with a mono illustration to the front panel and purple and white lettering. A little bumping to the corners but overall a very good copy.
