Reader reviews for The Plot Vol. 1

From the publisher

The Haunting of Hill House meets Locke & Key in THE PLOT, a supernatural horror tale where death forces Chase Blaine back to his ancestral home, built on a vast, ancient bog where family secrets just won't stay drowned.

IN ORDER TO RECEIVE, FIRST YOU MUST GIVE.

Chase Blaine tried to run from his family, but when his estranged brother and sister-in-law are murdered, he becomes guardian to MacKenzie and Zach, the niece and nephew he hardly knows. Seeking stability for the children, Chase moves his newly formed family to his ancestral home in Cape Augusta, Maine -- which overlooks a deep, black bogland teeming with family secrets that just won't stay drowned.

THE PLOT VOL. 1 collects issues #1 to #4 of the eight issue series.

From writers Tim Daniel (End After End, Fissure, Denizen, and more!) and Michael Moreci (Barbaric, Wasted Space, Spree, and Revealer) and artist Joshua Hixson (Shanghai Red, The Black Woods, and Batman)

For fans of The Haunting of Hill House (Shirley Jackson), Locke & Key (Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez), The Drowning Kind (Jennifer McMahon), We Have Always Lived In the Castle (Shirley Jackson), Burnt Offerings (Robert Marasco), Wytches (Scott Snyder and Jock), Home Before Dark (Riley Sager), Mapping the Interior (Stephen Graham Jones), and A Head Full of Ghosts (Paul Tremblay).

"There is a great balance between realistic dialogue and unspeakable horror and a cliffhanger that practically demands the reading of the next issue." -The New York Times

"THE PLOT jars, upsets, shocks, and disorients--this comic is out to get you." - Daniel Kraus (New York Times bestselling author of The Shape of Water, Whalefall, Trollhunters, The Living Dead, and The Autumnal graphic novel from Vault Comics)

"THE PLOT is GREAT! CREEPY as hell, but great. Another winner from Vault Comics." - Brian Michael Bendis (bestselling writer of Spider-man, Miles Morales, Jessica Jones, Avengers, and more!)

About the author

Michael Moreci is a screenwriter and bestselling comics author. His award-winning debut feature film, Revealer, premiered on Shudder in the summer of 2022. He was recently hired by Paper Street Pictures to write the suspense thriller Come Find Me, and he recently completed directing his first feature film, from a screenplay he co-wrote. In the comics space, Michael is the creator of the acclaimed gothic horror series The Plot, the werewolf drama Curse, and the sword-and-sorcery series Barbaric, which Entertainment Weekly, Thrillist, and many others called one of the best comics of the year. He's also written for numerous legendary characters and properties, including Star Wars, Batman, and Stranger Things.

Creator, writer, and designer, Tim Daniel got his start in comics writing The Walking Dead: Survivor's Guide for Robert Kirkman's Skybound Entertainment. (He later became a zombie himself in the show's pilot episode). In 2012, Tim's first original comic, Enormous, was published by Image Comics. Enormous later returned to print in 2014 as an ongoing series from 215Ink. Since then, Tim has written and co-created Burning Fields and Curse (both with BOOM!), as well as Skinned (Monkeybrain), The Plot (co-written with Michael Moreci for Vault Comics), Fissure (Vault Comics), End After End (Vault Comics), Denizen for Nightfall: Double Feature (with David Andry) (Vault Comics), and is an acclaimed designer in publishing and pop culture.

Jim Campbell is a twice-Eisner-nominated comic-book letterer, one-time writer (perhaps again in the future!) and occasional artist (although his enthusiasm rather outstrips his actual ability). He knows more about print production than mortal man was meant to know and has also scanned more images than you've had hot dinners. Unless you're ninety years old.
