London: Chapman and Hall, 1891. First edition. Leather. Fine. 8.5" by 5.5". Not Stated. A half calf first edition of Watson's work on poachers and poaching, in lovely condition. A first edition of this work in a half calf binding. Top edge gilt. Bookplate to the front paste down. Frontispiece depicts two lurchers and a hare. The chapters in this work originally appeared as articles in Macmillan's Magazine, the Cornhill Magazine, the National Review, the Gentleman's Magazine, the St. James's Gazette and the Pall Mall Gazette. Watson describes the art of poaching, and the animals who were regularly poached, such as badgers, otters, fish, birds and their eggs. He also gives an affectionate portrait of the British countryside. In a half calf binding. Externally in excellent condition, with good colour and bright gilt. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Fine
