A collection of the poetical works and letters of the pre-Romantic poet, Thomas Gray, illustrated with mounted photograph plates. A large paper edition. In a handsome full calf binding with gilt detail, signed by Riviere & Son. With three photograph plates and a frontispiece. Collated complete. A collection of Thomas Gray's poems, extracts, and letters. Gray is best known for his poem 'Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard'. He was offered the position of Poet Laureate in 1757 but turned it down due to self criticism, despite being a prolific and popular poet. With a bookplate to Francis Charles Hastings Russell, the 9th Duke of Bedford. In full calf signed binding with gilt detail. Externally, excellent with minor shelf wear and a few handling marks to the boards. The Duke of Bedford's bookplate to the front paste-down and another one to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with some scattered spots throughout, heavier towards the front and back, and the plates. Very Good Indeed
