The second edition of this work in half calf bindings. A collection of poetry by the Romantic poet William Cowper. These volumes include 'Table Talk', 'The Progress of Error', 'Charity', 'John Gilpin', 'The Task', and more. William Cowper was a popular English poet who helped initiate the Romantic movement, with his descriptions of life in the English countryside. After a stint of being institutionalised for insanity, Cowper recovered and began focusing on writing religious works. He was strongly against slavery, using his poems to try and support the Abolitionist campaign. 2 pages of publisher's advertisements to the front of volume II. In half calf bindings. Externally, rubbed to the spine and extremities, with small losses to the backstrips. Both boards detached to vol I. Boards of vol II are tender, with the front board held by one cord and the rear board held by two cords. Internally, firmly bound.
