An early edition of the collected poems of William Cowper, replete with numerous illustrated plated and published the year of his death. A complete collection of the poems of noted English poet and hymnwriter William Cowper, a new edition of this work published the same year as his death.Complete in two volumes. William Cowper was a noted eighteenth-century poet who was incredibly influential in the Romantic movement with his contemporaries Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth. His most well-known poems, which are included in this collection, comprise of 'The Task', 'The Castaway', 'The Diverting History of John Gilpin', and more. Illustrated with ten engraved plates. Collated and complete.Containing an ink inscription from a previous owner to the front blank of each volume: 'Emma P. Waddington, given her by John Waddington, May 3rd, 1805'. Handsomely bound in full straight-grain morocco. Externally, very smart, with just some light shelf wear and rubbing to the spines. Containing an ink inscription from a previous owner to the front blank of each volume. Internally, front hinges are lightly strained. Light offsetting to the pages opposite the plates, and a few spots to the pages, which are otherwise clean throughout. Very Good Indeed
