Illustrated with four plates in Volume I and six plates in Volume II. Collated complete. The collected poetical works of William Cowper, an English poet and Anglican hymnwriter. One of the most popular poets of his time, Cowper changed the direction of 18th-century nature poetry by writing of everyday life and scenes of the English countryside. Poems include: Progress of Error, Expostulation, A Comparison, Ode to Peace, Human Frailty, and The Modern Patriot. In the original full calf binding. Externally, sound with bumping and rubbing to the extremities. Joints starting but firm to both volumes. Loss to the spine of volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with light scattered spotting. Light age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Bookseller's stamp to rear endpaper of Volume II. Good
