Stated First Edition/First Printing with no mention of subsequent printings (first printing point for Little Brown at the time); A Near Fine book in a Near Fine dust jacket. An exceptional copy of this novel, now basis for the fine film by Jane Campion in 2021. This copy is in near fine condition with a square, tight binding, crisp black lettering over orange boards, and clean white pages throughout; the book does show some light soiling to the spine and top board edges, and a stamp from famed literary agent Harold Swanson to both the front free paper and the title page. Housed in a sharp and bright near fine dust jacket that shows some mild rubbing and creasing to the panel edges and some faint spotting to both panels. Overall, a highly presentable and collectible copy of an important work of 20th Century Literature, just now getting its deserved acclaim. Not remaindered, not price clipped ($5.95 intact), not ex-library; in a fresh Mylar sleeve and will ship carefully wrapped in a sturdy box.
