Practice under Article 9 of the UCC, Second Edition is a comprehensive guide for lawyers facilitating secured transactions. This updated edition summarizes the provisions of Article 9 as it was revised and as it is contained in the 2010 Official Text of the UCC. The 2010 Official Text includes the 2002 revision of Article 1 of the UCC and the 2003 revision of Article 7 of the UCC, with conforming amendments to Article 9. The 2010 Official Text also includes the amendments to Article 9 promulgated in 2010 (the "2010 amendments"). The "2010 amendments" address a narrow set of issues, but do not change the basic structure of Article 9 and are expected to become effective on July 1, 2013.

The Second Edition includes:

  • Articles in simple, clear language describing and summarizing all of revised Article 9. These articles, authored by Steven O. Weise, the ABA Advisor to the Revised Article 9 Drafting Committee, and Edwin E. Smith, a member of the Drafting Committee, are essential reading for anyone not fully familiar with the detailed rules in and numerous changes made by revised Article 9.

About the author

Professor Stephen L. Sepinuck teaches at Gonzaga University School of Law and has written nine books and won awards for both his teaching and his scholarship. In the 1990s, he served as an advisor to the Drafting Committee that revised Article 9 of the UCC and chaired its Task Force on Deposit Accounts. He is an expert in bankruptcy, sales, and secured transactions. Professor Sepinuck is also an elected member of the American Law Institute and resides in Spokane, WA.
