A study of stories of supernatural birth as a result of eating, drinking, absorption of the dead, smell, magic, by bathing, by ran, by a glance, or by a wish. This work explores magical practices to obtain children, transformation and meta-psychosis, mother-right and father-right, marital jealousy, physiological ignorance on the subject of conception, and much more. With examples of instances of supernatural birth or pregnancy. Written by Edwin Sidney Hartland, an English author of works on folklore, anthropology, and mythology. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges with the odd mark to the board. 1" splits to the cloth at the head of the spine to volume one and a 5" split in the cloth to the rear joint of volume two with minor loss to the head and tail of the spine of each volume. Hinges starting but firm to both volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot and light scattered spotting to the first and last few pages. Tide marks to the top corner of pages in volume one. Good
