New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1893. Wallace (1827-1880) was a Civil War general, governor of New Mexico, and polular author, whose novel "Ben-Hur" was perhaps the best-selling work of the 19th Centuryand has never been out of print. This novel, from 13 years later, was supposedly requested by President James Garfield. These are Very Good copies of the First Edition; with Wallace's dedication to his father, per McBride indicating the second issue. Dark blue cloth binding with gilt titling; front cover decoratively stamped in black and red with a set of Christian "worry beads" draped over the star and crescent of Islam. Clean texts; vii, 502 pages and v, 578 pages. Rubbed along the margins; light bumps; slightly cocked; some bubbling to Volume One. Sound copies, excellent for reading, but not for the advanced collector.. First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
