About This Item

London: Geoffrey Cumberlege Oxford University Press, 1937 . Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good Indeed. 9.5" by 6.5". Various. The second edition, second impression of this two volume set on Updike's typography work. Second edition, second impression of Printing Types Their History, Forms, and Use; A Study in Survivals in the original publisher's cloth bindings and clipped dust wrappers. Complete in two volumes. By Daniel Berkeley Updike, an American printer and historian of typography. He trained as a printer at the Riverside Press of Houghton, Mifflin & Company, and later moved to typographic design. He founded the Merrymount Press in 1896. Densely illustrated throughout the texts with various examples of fonts and typefaces. Prior owner's book plates to the first pastedowns, from the library of Michael Scot. In the original publisher's cloth bindings and clipped dust wrappers. Externally, very smart. There is some light bumping to the heads and tails of the spines, and light marks to the front board of Volume I. The dust wrappers have some slight wear to the extremities, with some small tears, creases, and light spots. There is an inch-long closed tear to the front of the dust wrapper of Volume II. Prior owner's book plates to the first pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
