[6pp]; 52pp. Some light bumping and scuffing to extremities and spine ends, strong and tight, with some superficial splash marks and staining to the front board; internally clean, with some toning to prelims, illustrated throughout with 54 charts and diagrams. A very good copy with some staining to the front board.

A clearly enthusiastic record of the advances made industrially and socially during the Soviet Five Year Plan, transmitted in the form of charts, graphs and diagrams showing everything from agricultural development, the participation of women in local and general government, the growing national income, the coal and oil industries etc. Johnson had made a number of trips to the USSR by this time, and was a fervent advocate of the ebergy and industry which he saw evidenced in every part of the collective effort. The volume would normally be described as a vanity publication, seeing as Johnson produced it in-house, but in this case rather than serving the vanity of an author, it catered to the vanity and validation of an entire nation.
