About This Item
Lexington: University of Kentucky Press, 1968. xvii, 326 pages. Original tan cloth. 22.5 x 15 cm. A fine, fresh copy in about very good dust jacket. Jacket shows tiny tear to head of spine panel, short (2 cm) closed tear to rear panel, and sun-fading to the spine panel and a small portion of the front panel. FIRST EDITION. "In this study of the Federalists in the South during the formative years of the Republic, Mr. Rose shows . . . that it was the Federalists rather than their Republican opponents who originated many of the basic party structures and devices for eliciting wide public support . . . Usually dismissed as reactionaries in a new era of liberalism, the Federalists during this period were an active political force that claimed the loyalties of many of the leaders in state and local government and established considerable support among southerners for the federal policies of George Washington and John Adams." --dust jacket.
