About This Item

London: Collins, 1935. First edition. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. 8" by 5.5". Not Stated. A scarce first edition copy of Howard Spring's sequel to his novel 'Shabby Tiger', in the original unclipped dust wrapper. The scarce first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper.Bookplate of Phyllis Davies to the front paste down. Howard Spring (1889-1965) was a Welsh author who began his writing career as a journalist. From 1934, he produced a series of bestselling novels, the most successful of which was Fame Is the Spur (1940).This work is the sequel to Shabby Tiger (1934), in which the beautiful, calculating but oddly likeable Rachel Rosing tramples every human affection under foot. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is mostly bright and smart, except for marks to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, except for some offsetting to the end papers, and the odd spot to the fore edge, affecting the occasional page. Dust wrapper is generally bright, though sunned to the spine. Chipped to the head and tail of the spine and to the folds of the flaps, causing a loss to the head of the spine of the wraps, with amateur repairs and tape to the verso of the wrap. Very Good
