About This Item

Pamphlet, 8vo, 8pp. Ex-Library copy (Harvard), embossed library stamp, right margin with edge folds and some chips and tears, not affecting text, a little creasing too, some minor soiling and foxing, pencil notations on front page, normal aging; otherwise in good condition. James B. Howell (1816-1870) was a lawyer, editor and politician, who was a member of both the Whig and Republican parties. He was appointed Senator of Iowa after the resignation of his predecessor in1870. The current pamphlet addresses issues related to land grants for settlers in the West. Howell supported a fair price bill that would give settlers a chance to get land at a reasonable price. The OCLC locates four copies.
