Brown leather spines and corners over paper-covered boards, gilt titles and rules. A work of materialist philosophy linking psychology and biology; Schopenhauer was a strong proponent of Cabanis's work. Cabanis was a freemason and early advocate of evolutionary theory whose writings influenced Lamarck.
