BINDING/CONDITION: from a series with semi-uniform bindings -- quarter leather (leather at the spine); with gilt decorations; raised spine bands; all edges gilt; ribbon place marker; Fine condition.. 8vo (8.5 inches tall) . Marbled endpapers. Description: This is a volume from the Notable Trials Library under the general editorship of Alan M Dershowitz who wrote a special introduction for this facsimile edition. This is a facsimile reprinting of a book published in 1986 by Alfred A Knopf. Book design by Daniel B Bianchi and Selma Ordewer. From the introduction: ''Reckless Disregard, the title of this account of two great libel trials of the 1980s, derives from the legal standard for libel in a lawsuit including a public figure. Renata Adler has an almost religious sense of The Truth -- a major thesis of this book is that Time Magazine did not tell The Truth about General Ariel Sharon's responsibility for the Phalangist massacre of Palestinian civilians; and that CBS did not tell The Truth about General William Westmoreland's role in concealing enemy troop estimates in Vietnam. Adler advocates different standards for small than for large publications and argues that the First Amendment victories of the giant press do not help protect small publications.''
