Carthage, Indiana: Self, 1916 Interesting 43 page pamphlet written from personal experience of an Indiana pioneer. He talks of clearing land, making candles, keeping fire, Spiceland Friends [Quaker] meetings, the Underground Railroad, going to school with 'colored' children-the Quakers treating blacks with respect and equlity far before this was accepted. Also talks of corduroy roads and the beginnings of a railroad from Knightstown to Shelbyville by way of Carthage and Morristown.
