Bound in the original purplish-brown cloth, stamped "Patent Office Report 1851-2, Agricultural" in shiny gold on the spine. The spine's background color has uniformly mellowed a shade or two to a light brown. Front and rear covers are both blindstamped with a patriotic eagle/shield symbol. NOT a library discard. Some pages show light - moderate age toning and foxing but NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. This is the U.S. SENATE version; 32nd Congress, 1st session, Ex. Doc. 118. It includes sections on: Agriculture and Agricultural Education; Cultivation of Special Crops; Cattle-Breeding; American Ruminants; Agricultural Circular [with replies from about 140 individual farmers]; Agricultural, Commercial, and Manufacturing Statistics (volume of traffic on various railroads, New York canals, coal and oil trade, coffee and sugar, lake trade, East India and Pacific trade, plus individual sections on the commerce in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Ohio, Buffalo, Milwaukie, Galena). At the end are 8 plates depicting buffalo, deer, moose, sheep, elk, goats, reindeer, etc. This copy belonged to R. S. Kennedy of Stewartsville, Warren County, New Jersey. The front flyleaf is signed by him and by J. M. Kennedy (his son?). [Robert Stewart Kennedy (d. 1879) was a United States marshal, judge of the court of errors, and a member of the N. J. State Constitutional convention of 1844 (which restricted suffrage to white males), as well as a Delegate to 1856 Republican National Convention]. . First Edition. Hardcover.
